Damodar kund ( Temple )

damodar kundDamodar Kund / Damodar raiji Temple

Built in 500 ad. This often reconstructed kund (water reservoir) is a check dam.  This kund is about one km before the bottom of Girnar Hill. Damodar Kund is a holy water reservoir that marks the ascent to the Girnar temples. It is surrounded by a well-built ghat.

The great saint poet Narsinh Mehta used to come here daily in early morning for bath & prayer.

To reaching the temple the bridge was created by divan Haridas Vihari of that period on personal cost.

It is believed that here Lord Krishna placed a flower garland around the neck of the great poet and Saint Narsinh Mehta. Every year lacks of pilgrims take bath in damodar kund.

Upperkot Fort

The fort is worth visiting for the seekers of historical places and forts

Upperkot – Upperkot is an impressive fort located in the town. Its ground level is 150 ft up in comparison of junagadh railway station. It is combination of historical and archeology value. Main entrance is decorated with stone graving. In its construction iron or any metal is not used.  It was originally built in 319 BC. Some parts of the fort’s walls are 20 m high.

nilam and manek canonNilam & manek cannon- Egypt made (1531) this canon brought from dui by fozdar mujahidkhan belim in 1538. It was abandoned by a Turkish admiral opposing the Portuguese forces at Diu in the Sixteenth Century.  It is best sample of metallurgy knowledge of that period. The rust has not attached it though it stands under open sky since 500 years.

jumma masjid upparkotJumma masjid- the huge building was build by chudasama ruler but after the victory of junagadh, mohmad begada converted it into masjid but the work was not finished. Mehrab on wall is beautiful engraving on marble.

buddh's caveBuddha cave- preserved heritage monument by central government.  It expose the history of more than 2000 years. It has two unique ground floors. Includes stairs. Central open space surrounding by passages and room supported by pillers. On pillers male female figures and flowers are carved. First believed that caves are made for religious activity but now through the experts research it has proved that caves are made for entartainment programme of dance, drama etc. In this way this is the oldest stage of India.

adi chadi vavAdichadi vav (well) – 1000 years old this stap well was build by Ranavghan on the name of his two royal servant girls, named Adi & Chadi though archeology and art the well is not rich but its length and depth is worth seeing. People can rich to water by 120 steps.

Amphi theatre- recently builds in 2003 the unique open air theatre of saurastra for social & entertainment program. The light and sound show held every day at 7.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. at theatre.

navaghan kuvo upparkotNavghan kuvo (well) – The well build by ruler of junagadh Ranavghan before 1000 years. It is unique architectural work. The 12 feet wide steps, big square hall for light and air. The whole structure made by cutting and carving through stone. The stairs that lead down 52 meters to the water level spiral around the well shaft itself, which is also very uncommon.

Kothar- The storage peat prepared by Rakhangar to storage of grain at the war period the number is 13 in with assorted depth & width from 18 to 20 meters.

Dhakka Bari – It is said that Rakhengar’s rule criminals were pushed down from here. Really was for prayer to the rising sun by kings.

Lake- the 8th nawab of junagadh Rashul khanji built the 8 water reservoir still useful in water supply to the city junagadh.

Kadanal cannon-The 8 feet long cannon “ KADANAL” near the south side of the fort the inscription in arbi is “ALBIN HAMZA”

Darbar Hall Museum

darbar hall museumDisplays many rare and valuable collection of nawabi time. In kacheri name big hall nawab used to held their darbars (assemblies). It looks gorgeous due to royal silver chairs, huge mirrors, antique items and creates the nawabi period atmosphere.

One hall displays silver palkhi, artistic umbrella silver ladder and other silver coated items.

In weapon section we can see many types of swards and weapons used in battle field of that period.

In picture gallery there are paintings of junagadh nawabs, British officers and great personalities.

Bhavnath Mandir ( Temple )

bhavnath mandirIn the shadow of mountain girnar  bhavnath temple attached with mrugi kund. The Bhavnath Mahadev temple is a shrine ensconced in myths and legends of the Puranic era.

There are two main annual festivals: Maha Shivaratri and Girnar Lili Parikrama.

The fair during Mahashivaratri is held for five days commencing from the Hindu calendar  date of Magh Vad 9, during the Gregorian months of February-March. About 10 lakhs people visit,.

The evening leading up to the midnight ritual of Mahashivaratri, at the wrestling grounds, or akhada, next to the temple, the naga bavas gather for a ritual involving a blend of dance and martial arts.

parikarma gateGIRNAR PRIKRAMA: – Starts from kartik    11 to 15 lakhs people. The periphery of Girnar hills on foot about 40 km.

Girnar Mountain -Junagadh Enjoys the religious of natural beauty. Every year during the period of five days ending on the full moon day of Kartik month, a circular excursion to mount girnar (Parikrama) is held. Lacks of people take part in it.



It goes from Bhavnath Temple to Jina Bawa Ni Madhi, Hanuman Dhara, Malvela, Bordevi and return to Bhavnath Temple.

Ashok Rock Edicts

Uneven rock with a circumfernce of 75 feet & 12 feet hight  This rock edict is a huge boulder that is housed in a small roadside building  The inscriptions carry Brahmi script in Pali language and Sanskrit language are also inscribed. Bahuddin maqbara

It is a typical palace-mausoleum of late 19th Century Royal Monuments of Junagadh. world Famous for its intricate architecture.

Its striking art and architecture make it one of the city’s most important historical landmarks.


Mohabbat Maqbara and  Bahuddin maqbara , are masterpiece of its kind with finely designed arches, vertical columns and elaborate stone carvings on the walls and windows. Its silver-decorated portals, the winding staircases encircling its four tall minarets

With a combination of Indo-Islamic and Gothic architecture, Mohabbat Maqbara offers a sense of equality and exchange between the two cultures.

The Jami Masjid is on one side of the mausoleum while the bahuddin Vazir‘s maqbara is on the other side.

Three Nawabs were buried. In mahabat maqbara and vazir a azam bahuddinbhai was buried in bahuddin maqbara.

Akshar mandir ( Temple )
